Thanks both, for your replies. Not knowing anything about this relative, it would be so useful if we could have his NI no. info. Thanks anyway and I'll try what you suggested about GP records etc. Patricia

PATRICIA JUST A THOUGHT, you can send of for his bank records as he is dead, and you know what bank he used. These give huge amounts of clues as to his occupation, bills ects. They are hard to get, but the results can be fantastic. Also who were his doctors.....you can access a dead relatives medical records, difficult yet again....but if there is a specific illness in the line of family then they may be willing to help. I WISH THEY WOULD PUT N.I. NUMBERS ON BIRTH RECORDS ETC, IT WOULD MAKE LIFE MUCH EASIER.

I don't think this is in the public domain, but I could be wrong.

Does anyone know if its possible to trace a relatives NI No? I'm talking c.1950 to 1990's (when they died). If so, how could I use it to trace where they worked? Many thanks in anticipation.
