A few ideas (remove any asterisks in the web-addresses) The National Archives are a good resource http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/default.htm http://www.nra.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ http://www.a2a.org.uk/ and the bit where you can buy pdf images http://www.documentsonline.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ and a part free part pay-per-view resource with NRA overtones http://www.nationalarchivist.*com This is the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website, but won't be useful for family members who didn't die in war http://www.cwgc.org/cwgcinternet/search.aspx This is a useful source for army museums and their websites: http://www.armymuseums.org.uk/ This is useful for Boer War plus Indian Mutiny and China War: http://hometown.aol.*co.uk/KevinAsplin/home.html Absent voters lists and other WW1 info http://www.pals.org.uk/research.htm http://www.1914-1918.net/ Maritime research info: http://www.angelfire.*com/de/BobSanders/Site.html http://www.nmm.ac.uk/memorials/AdvancedSearch.cfm http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/Trafalgar/ hope something here helps Christine |

Is there any way I can find out which Regiment/service someone served in in the 1st World War or Boer War. My Grandfather fought in the 1st World War and died 4 years after the war as a result of his injuries. I haven't a clue about which division/regiment he was in. I believe that my Great Grandfather fought in the Boer War. Aslo my Dad served in the Merchant Navy during 2nd World War. I have an itendity tag and chain with a surname, initials and number on it . The tag and chain are gold and I have been told that it was Victorian. It could have belonged to my Grandfather or Great Grandfather as their initials were the same. Any ideas anyone? I would be very grateful. Thanks Marjorie |
