Hi Peter, Yes it does work. There is more than one marriage per page in the register so when you use the page reference you will get each possible spouse on that page. (2 or 4 depending on the date) The others have told you that if you find them on census then you can see which is the bride from the "possibles" found in the GRO index. The other matches will be married to the other man/men indexed on the same page. Gwynne

Going back and putting the female name in as a spouse gave me a match on both females - so that doesn't work.

Hi Darren, me again! Here are the results of a search for a mrriage for for Alfred Tabram in 1884. Four people appear, two brides, two grooms: Name Year Quarter District County Volume Page CONNER, David 1884 September Bethnal Green Greater London London Middlesex 1c 354 Neal, Rebecca 1884 September Bethnal Green Greater London London Middlesex 1c 354 REDDALL, Sarah 1884 September Bethnal Green Greater London London Middlesex 1c 354 Tabram, Alfred 1884 September Bethnal Green Greater London London Middlesex 1c 354 You already know his bride was named Rebecca, therefore she must have been Rebecca Neal. Darren, I don't understand why you say you still haven't had a result. Carol has already said that Henry's brides names was Martha WASH. If you can find a marriage reference which has two possible brides names, finding the groom on the next available census willtell you his wifes forename and from there you can deduce which of the two possible brides must be the correct one. Henry on the 1901 was married to a Martha Ann M so the bride in this case must have been Martha Ann M WASH. Sam

If you get all the brides names (as per the above messages), then you can go back to the free bmd search page and search by both male and female names, it will then only find the certificate with both names on, hence finding the bride without you ordering the certificate. Sarah

Here they are in 1901, so it is Martha Ann M WASH Albert Byford 26 Clare, Suffolk, England Boarder Greenwich London Henry T Tabram 40 Newington, London, England Head Greenwich London Martha A M Tabram 38 Greenwich, London, England Wife Greenwich London

If there is more than one, sometimes you can tell who married who because they will have one bride and groom in capitals. You can always hope! The thing is you can then look them up on the 1901 census and you should find the wife's Christian name on that so you can tie it in.
