This family is driving me nuts. Thomas Ellis married Mary Artis in 1818 in Lakenham. Edward their son was born in 1822 in Lakenham. From this time on the trail is cold for Thomas and Mary. Edward did move to Dewsburys where he married and had children. I have given up several times but keep coming back. I for one don't know what else to do but I am open to suggestions. Gail

Hey thats interesting, as I have an ancestor who married an Ann Artis in Norwich. They moved to Aylsham - have you checked out that area too?

IGI on LDS shows James Artis Ellis Christening: 16 SEP 1827 Lakenham, Norfolk, England and Marianne Artis Ellis Christening: 27 JUN 1824 Lakenham, Norfolk, England. Parents names tally. May be a connection there Beth :)

Ok, well I have just looked at the Norfolk Transcriptions for the 1841 census and there is a Thomas Ellis, Ag Lab aged 45 and Mary Ellis aged 45 living in Langley in Lodden district. Which I guess would have made them 24 or so in 1818 when your two married.

Hi Elizabeth and Heather, Your info sounds very promising. Does the 41 census give much info like who else lived at the house. Gail

I havent got the full census, just checked out the Norfolk Transcriptions site, I just had another quick look and there is a Mary Ellis in Dereham aged 45 of independent means living with what seems to be a 15 year old son called Thomas. This is the site address: http//www.genealogy.doun.org/transcriptions/links.php But if I were you, I would go to the records board and ask nicely if someone would look up on the full 1841 census for Norfolk.

Oh dear, sorry about that Gail, it did look promising. Dont give up and keep all this bits of info because when I started looking for my Norfolk lot I got loads of info that led to dead ends but when things started to come together I looked back and could see connections to those people I thought were just red herrings. Have you tried the Norfolk Transcriptions site? And Rootsweb Norfolk page? I take it you have checked out familysearch?
