It's all about money, they don't want you going to other sites unless they can recommend them. Thats the reason for the flashing adds which slow down and already slow site, running on minimum bandwidth. Wouldn't be so bad if the site worked when you can get on. Look at the trouble with the trees that seems never ending. Try typing the e mail service that sounds like "warm letters" and it won't accept. How silly. Bob

It would be very clever if I hadn't read on one of the other threads that you can type .gov, .org, .net, .ac, .anthing but NOT .*co or .*com (without asterisks!). Like many on the site, I'm not sure why they haven't stopped this particularly tedious form of censorship. You can't even use the word "dot" - a bit irritating if your ancestor used the diminutive of Dorothy! Christine [thinks: now to see if that works... ]

How do you manage to write an internet address without it getting scrambled? Clever clogs!!

Another opportunity to leap onto my hobby-horse! This site; http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/ has lots of useful links very well organised. In particular it has Local Register Office lists which are gradually being transcribed so you can do free searches. You still have to pay for the certificates, of course. It also has links to other sites with census transcriptions, memorial inscription lists and so on. Christine

Not sure what you are asking for. The 1901 census is NOT free, just the index. The 1881 census is free on www.familysearch.org but you can't see the original images, and there are some mistranscriptions. This webaddress also has a lot of parish records as well. BMD as in births marriages and deaths, are free on http://freebmd*.rootsweb*.com remove * to use. This is an incomplete but still useful list of BMD indexes, you can use the reference to order the certificate. nell
