I think it would be someone who makes thing out of metal, like a Lathe or Machine Operator. |

According to an old occupations list on Google:- FETTLER - cleaned machinery in woollen mills, removing accumulated fibres, grease etc., sharpened the fustian cutters knives, or needlemaker who filed the needle to a point. Kath. x |

It occurs to me that "being in fine fettle" would mean that you were in full working order - like a properly service engine!! (no sniggers, please ;-) ) Christine |
