Hi Helen Thank you for looking. The George entry is the marriage are both the others births? I think a look up on the 1861 census would be a good idea. I believe Hester married a Charles Self. I will put a thread up for that. Thanks again Chris |

Found these entries on Ancestry civil reg for Spilsbury Selfs: Name Year Quarter District County Volume Page Self, George Spilsbury 1859 December Stepney Greater London London Middlesex 1c 1002 SELF, Mary Ann Spilsbury 1848 March Stepney Greater London London Middlesex 2 498 [this is a birth record] Self, Matilda Elizabeth Spilsbury 1852 March Stepney Greater London London Middlesex 1c 572 |

It is not uncommon for people to have different christian names on different certs, or to use their middle name as their first name. You would need to find these Selfs on the 1861 census to confirm their identity. nell |

Annie Self m 18 March 1883 (aged 18) in Stepney to Richard William Blake. Her Father listed as ROBERT Spilsbury Self - Mariner in the presence of Robert George Spilsbury Self & Grace Self. I had always thought that Robert George Spilsbury Self was her brother(b1854?) and Grace his wife. I have always thought that Roberts wife was Mary Ann b1841 Limehouse. Today I have received the birth certificate of Annie Hester Self born 8 Nov 1864 - Father GEORGE Spilsbury Self and Mother Mary Ann Seymour. (they married in 1959). and Georges mother is Hester Self. Would they have made a mistake with the names? How can I sort this out. I really am confused. If I get this wrong I will be following the wrong family. Also it does not say deceased on the wedding cert. Yet on the 1871 census Annie H is living with Hester and is a widow. Be grateful for your thoughts Chris |
