Hi Lindy. How did you manage to get such a great certificate? Do you know if it's possible to get death certs from 1940-1950. Is there a website please? I am searching for my Great Uncle, Francis Townsend born about 1890 in Scotland, who emigrated to SA just after WW1, he worked at the Royal Naval Hosptial in Simon's Town. Thanks, Sylvia

Hi Sylvia, I found this in the South African Archives. (Cape Town Depot) It is not the same as the death notice and does not have much information, mostly what he had, and who he left it to. However, sometimes the death notice is together with the Estate papers. DEPOT KAB SOURCE MOOC TYPE LEER VOLUME_NO 6/9/3988 SYSTEM 01 REFERENCE 31991 PART 1 DESCRIPTION TOWNSEND, WILLIAM FRANCIS THOMAS. ESTATE PAPERS. STARTING 19310000 ENDING 19310000 The email addy is: www(.)national(.)archives(.)gov(.)za/ The only way to get a copy of this document is to go there there yourself or get someone to do it for you. I use a reliable source who is a member of the S.A. Genealogical Society. He photographs the documents I require for a reasonable fee. Lindy;-)))
