I'm thinking of becoming a member of Ancestry.com but worried that it might be a waste of money. Can anyone enlighten me please? Thanks in anticipation. Sheila

Sheila i did the 14 day free trial and found it fantastic. I didn't subscribe at the time cos I'd not gone far enough back for it to be worth my while financially at that point but now I'm making headway, I'm seriously considering it. So many people have been able to locate info for me when I've posted messages on the board, all of which has come from ancestry, so it seems to be a very useful tool. Ali

I got my years subscription to Ancestry as a Christmas present last year and it's been the best present I've had in years. Not only have I found lots of my own ancestors on the census (1871, 1891 and 1901) but also births and marriages of relations. On top of that I've been able to do look-ups for other people on GenesReunited which I enjoy when I've got nothing better to do. All in all well worth the money (although I didn't pay) and I'm asking for another subscription for Christmas this year. Kath. x

I paid for a year and I find it invaluable, but I am researching a lot of different names and going sideways as well. It is value for money if you will be searching a lot, a years payment works out at just over 6 pound a month and you can save and print out census pages. Take the plunge, you wont regret it if you have a lot to look for.

And another thing - I prefer to pay ancestry to use their site whenever it suits me, and not stuck to pay per view and having to plan it in order to use up my fiver before my time runs out, as it is on 1901.

Good decision Sheila! Pay on the US site as it will work out cheaper than the UK site.

I'm another fan! Even though I wasn't in time to take John's advice about paying in dollars, I worked out that the annual subscription was £70 - less than £6 a month. Have certainly had my money's worth, and I like being able to print out images of the actual census to keep. Mandy :)
