I have been looking a marriage for ages of grear grand parents, either they never married , or married later than 1890 or the names have been transcribed incorrectly, could this be possbiel on both names or just with one of them. The names are William Stubbington and Ada Wright and the marirage would have been expected about 1875/76, have found a couple for William Stubbington but the female is not Ada Wright. Also the census records show they had their first child in about 1877 born in Plumstead but can find no record of that either, name William Stubbington.of the above parents. Can anybody help or give me any suggestions on where I can go from here. Ada Wright is my stumbling block as she is shown on 81, 91 and 01 census records but shown as being born in USA (British Subject), so need a marriage certificate to get her father details etc Many thanks in avance for all your help. Jayne

There are some local sites which might be useful to you: http://cityark.medway.gov.uk/ (which was highlighted in another thread here) http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/ If you choose Kent as the county (drop-downlist + "county" icon on the left of the home page) there are a whole lot, inlcuding a searchable Local County BMD site (i.e. the Local Register Office). http://www.kfhs.org.uk/ is the Kent Family History Society Christine

I think there must be some problems today. The reason I didn't copy-in the link directly, but just described how to find it, was because I couldn't get through this evening either. I have got to their site before. I don't like it as much as the other Local ones, but it does have a search function. good hunting! Christine

It is possible that they married later than you expected, or that they never married at all, but pretended to be Mr & Mrs. Keep looking for a marriage, but bear it in mind. I have been unable to find a marriage for my great-grandmother. Her first husband died 1st May 1879 (their 14th wedding anniversary) when they were living in Islington. She reappears south of the river at Greenwich as Mrs Garvie with 2nd husband on the 1881 census. No sign of any marriage, but I felt sure they would have married. I am gloomily contemplating wading through all the church records for Islington and Greenwich, and of course they may have not married at all, or married elsewhere! nell

Jayne, My G Grandparents married after 9 children and 25 years!! He apparently had a first wife in an asylum at the time! I also have a set of GG Grandparents who never married - she was a widow, he the lodger. My Grandfather was a bigamist, killed in WWII, and can't find his marriage to my gran (his secret found out when he was killed so marriage wiped off the register)!! maggie
