Thanks Christine, I don't think I have fully got to grips with everything that you can do on BMD so I am looking forward to having a go, it will probably be Monday now cos hubby tends to do more research at weekends as I am able to do it in the week, but if I have any problems I will give you a shout... Thanks again for your help. Gaynor Ann xxx

I enjoyed helping. It was really satisfying to see all that info come up, even tho' it's not mine. If you have any trouble finding the right URLs, let me know and I'll post them (again, that is. - I think people must think I have shares in UKBMD, I enthuse about it so much!). Christine

Hi You said you'd looked on UKBMD, but you quoted a GRO reference. Using UKBMD.org.uk I went to the Cheshire BMD site and found these: BIRTHS 1857 Surname Forename(s) Sub-District Registers At Reference WORTHINGTON Walter Runcorn Halton RUN/17/59 MARRIAGES Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference 1851 BUTTERWORTH Thomas LAMB Mary Hannah Runcorn, All Saints Halton C12/2/136 1876-1880 WORTHINGTON Walter BUTTERWORTH Ellen Runcorn, All Saints Halton C12/5/406 I think you get the gist of this. I think that, much as I enjoy solving puzzles, iit'll be more fun for you if you look them up!! If you find them and click on the references, you get a partially-completed application form which you post off with the fee (same as GRO). In my experience the local offices get the certs to you by postal application at least as fast as you get them ordering GRO-online. good hunting Christine

Hi Jeanie, I have found on 1837 online, just one Walter Worthington born in 1857 so that could well be him, However on UKBMD This is all I found: WORTHINGTON Walter Salford 8d 85 ....... I'm still in the dark :-(

Gaynor, have you tried 1837? Or go on Records board in case someone has the census for the area. If you go on to UKBMD and get Cheshire up, I think they have indexed all of Cheshire best wishes Jeanie

I have hit a real brick wall with this side of my family and haven't got very far at all. I am looking for the parents and family or WALTER WORTHINGTON. WALTER b. 1857 in Runcorn, Cheshire. Walter married Ellen or Eleanor Butterworth - no date. ELLEN / ELEANOR BUTTERWORTH b. 16 July 1855 in Runcorn, Cheshire. Her parents were Thomas Butterworth b. 1822 and Mary Hannah Lamb b. 1831 in Runcorn, Cheshire. She had sisters, Annie and Sarah and a brother Thomas. Walter and Ellen / Eleanor had seven children: Sarah Annie b. c1876, Mary Jane b. 21st April 1878, Beatrice born c1881, Katie b. 1888, Jessie b. 1891, Evelyn b. 1894 and Walter b. 1896. Mary Jane Worthington was my Great Grandmother. I'm sorry I haven't anymore to tell you but I would be extremely grateful if anyone can find out anything at all about Walter Worthington born 1857 regarding his parents and family. Gaynor Ann xxx
