I wanted to get a fortnight free trial with Ancestry.co.uk, but it doesn't seem to be offered by them, only by Ancestry.com which I think is American based. I'm a bit nervous of dealing with the American end, and I don't need American records. Does anyone know if Ancestry.com covers the British censuses, and if emailing the American end has any problems?

The American based ancestry ending in (com) has only American and Canadian records whereas the ancestry ending (co uk) has UK and Irish records. I have a years subscription to the UK one and find it very good value for money, as you can save and print out the census images. Emailing the American part should not be a problem, but I have never done so.

Just go to the 'co uk' one as they do have the 2 week trial. I started with the trial but soon opted for the year membership and have found it very good, but as with other tips on the board be very creative with the spellings of the names you are searching for. If you don't want to purchase the membership I suggest you choose a 2 week period when you will be able to spend a lot of time researching and save as many related documents as you can at that time. Good luck
