This is getting interesting..I have also found another definition..Compounder, One whose occupation is to make or sell confections or candies! I think that compounder means anyone who mixes different things to get an end product. I certainly have a few to choose from now?? Thank you Kathleen, Kim, Heather and John for taking the time to help. Kaye (Sydney) |

I like Kim looked at it on the web and it says - One who, or that which, compounds or mixes "a compounder of medicines" could g.g. grandfather been a chemist??? |

There is a website for occupation names - cant remember the address, but probably google will. It sounds something to do with metals or chemicals to me. |

looked up the definition in the onl line dictionary and got this , (also saw references to someone who compounded the chemicals for early photographs) To combine so as to form a whole; mix. To produce or create by combining two or more ingredients or parts: pharmacists compounding prescriptions. To settle (a debt, for example) by agreeing on an amount less than the claim; adjust. To compute (interest) on the principal and accrued interest. To add to; increase: High winds compounded the difficulties of the firefighters. So could be interesting, could be a pharmacist? let us know if you find out more! Kim |

Tried to Google it and in Louisianna a compounder was someone who agreed to settle differences between two parties. Don't know about in England. I would have thought it might be someone who worked on the roads - just a guess. Kath |

My great great grandfathers occupation was a "compounder" Would anyone know exactly what that would be, I have never heard of it before. Thanks, Kaye. |
