Google his name? Contact the Tate gallery? Check out contemporary directories? Check with Schools of Art & Design?

One of my ancestors was a Watercolour artist and furniture designer. He had some of his work exhibited at the Tate Gallery in the early 1900s is there anywhere I can find out more about his career and works of art.
