Jayne, you're not a dim brunette, theres no such thing! How can you put yourself down like that. You had the intelligence to know what you were seeking and ask a question. I think, rather than being dumb this proves you have an enquiring mind. Best wishes with your research from a fellow brunette with the odd white one here and there. (All brought on by to much family research!) P.S. Saw a thread on here yesterday saying Ancestry will suposedly be adding 1881 with images this month. Never know they may have retranscribed all their errors. (and elephants fly, money grows on trees etc)

https://www.familyhistoryonline.net provides the same information as the LDS site, arranged in a slightly different format. You have to register to visit this site, but access to the 1881 index is free. It is often quicker to search for individuals on this site as the index includes occupation. Brenda

You get the transcript, not the original image. But it will give you the reference so you can check the original in a record office. Plus - when you've got the whole household, you can use the buttons top right to find previous/next households. This is useful in a village as you get a whole picture of how big it was, and in London it gives you an idea of the kind of area - whether its people with their own servants, or full of pawn brokers and labourers. nell

You click on the name of the person you want, then towards the top-right corner is "View Household".
