You are now giving me nightmares, my family are travellers, and if the only hope of finding them is to look through every return for Hampshire/Berkshire I think I will give up right here and now LOL LOL LOL - I think I will just have to rely on luck!! WHY CAN'T WE HAVE 1911 NOW???????? Seriously thank you for your support. It’s what we all need to keep going when we hit those brick walls.

Whilst helping a friend with her tree, I tried finding her G grandmother along with her children. We knew the area that she was living in but no amout of name variations etc would find her. Then we noticed a couple who were the right age to be the GG grandparents and so we checked the image, low and behold, living right next door were G grandmother and kids!! We again tried searching for them using the exact spellings, ages etc that were on the image, but once again, they did not show. So yes people were missed.

I thought you wouldn't have missed the Noahs - but thought I might as well put them up for completeness sake. I really hoped the Patance might be yours, too, but you've clearly tried the obvious guesses. I can't think of much else - I reckon it's down to luck now! good hunting Christine

I have lots of ancestors missing from diferent census returns, my g.g.grandfather and his entire family dont appear on the 1881 or 1901 but they are there on the 1891 census. jenny x

Thanks guys, but the noah pikes are already in my tree or not related. I have searched for them using only part of there first name without any surname eg Pat* but although I can find some of the names with miss spellings, I cant find them with other family members. They are all travellers, and in general I have been very lucky to trace so many of them, it just seems they have disapeared where the 1901 census is concerned and there are quite a few of them. I will just keep trying......

Me again! Are either of these likely to be yours? Liberty Pitt 32 Greenwich London London Poplar Plumber Liberty Pitt 79 Tiverton Devon London Poplar I can imagine Pike in script being misread as Pitt. There are a couple of Noah Pikes, but I presume you've ruled these out? Noah Pike 52 Devonshire Durham Greencroft Within Coal Miner Noah Pike 81 Berks Hungerford Berkshire Newbury Pedlar and these? Noah Pitt 11 Glos Quay Gloucester Longford Noah Pitt 50 Isle Of Wight Whitwell Isle Of Wight Newchurch Entire Carter On Farm Amongst that lot I saw one spelt NOAL: now is that Noah or Noel? I find it difficult to believe that it's correct as it is. Whoever looks for that person will be lucky to find them. Christine

Hi I just had a little play - puzzles intrigue me. Here is an example of what must surely be a mistranscription (I've copied/pasted, so this is exactly what it says on the site) - and could be your Patience, if the other info fits? Patance Pike 51 Oxford Ishp Southampton Aldershot Living On Own Means Even if it isn't yours, do you have enough info to play wildcards with the site with this as an idea of how weird it can be?! Hi Don't know if the relevant thread is still on - can't remember it's heading - but there's at least one which makes it very clear that: a] the 1901 transcriptions were often more imaginative than accurate b] there are some omitted sheets For myself, I found a number of relatives much more by luck than anything else. Using "wildcards" found some of them: JasAn for JasOn, CoOks for CoCks, LeAnard for LeOnard, and so on. Some of the errors are almost surreal. given that a lot of the transcriptions were done by poeple from the Asian sub-continent, for whom English is not a first language and who had little local knowledge available for dealing with unusual names, perhaps we shouldn't be astonished. Ive looked on both so if 1901 site is complete then they really are missing *()$"()&$"&%!!!!!!! I was hoping to trace some of the families with them to find marriages. Looks like this really is a dead end......

If you are looking on the 1901 census site, then it should be complete, but if on Ancestry, then I dont think that is complete yet.

I am missing my whole family from the 1901 census. There would be a Neptune/Nipton, Patience, Noah, liberty PIKE etc. I can find them in 1871,81,91 but not on 1901 AHGGGHHH I would asume that they would be in Hants, Berks but have tried looking under there first names to see if PIKE is spelt wrong but can't seem to get any clues. How complete is the 1901 census? could this be the reason????? - This is driving me insane......
