My Great Grandmother was born in 1876, I have her birth certificate and she appears on the 1891 and 1901 census. But she doesn't appear on the 1881 census and the only record I have of her parents are on her birth certificate. Is there a logical explanation for this? |

Kate Wilmshurst born 1876 Burwash Sussex. Father Charles, mother Jemima (nee Austen) All living in Sussex as far as I'm aware. Thank you. |

I have had the same problem with a couple of censuses. I eventually found the family under the wrong spelling of the surname which meant that they had appeared in the wrong part of the index. Perhaps you need to be a bit creative with the spelling. |
