I HAVE RECENTLY BEEN RESEARCHING AGRICULTURAL LABOUR AND THIS MENTIONED 'WOOD HOP SHAVING'. IT WOULD SEEM THAT THIS WAS LITERALLY SHAVING THE BRANCHES OF HOPS IN THE FIELDS AND THIS WAS OFTEN DONE BY CHILDREN AND WORKHOUSE PEOPLE! IT GAVE AN EXAMPLE OF A GIRL AGED 12 YEARS OLD WORKING DAYLIGHT HOURS AND RECEIVING 6d-1s PER HUNDRED POLES SHAVED!!!!!!!!!! I BELIEVE IT WAS A SITE ON WORKHOUSES BUT I CANNOTT REMEMBER THE WWW. BUT I HOPE THAT HELPS !
