Hello Elaine, I contacted Greater Manchester County Record Office last year regarding old prison records and was told that all the records for Strangeways were destroyed in the riots in the early1990's. They suggested that a record of conviction may appear in the papers of the magistrates court. They keep the records for Oldham, Bury and Rochdale. Manchester and Stockport are kept by the archive service for those areas. Hope this is of some help Julie

Elaine www.a2a.org.uk/search/index.asp Type in "Strangeways Prison" and there are a lot of documents at Lancashire Record Office and Greater Manchester Record Office. They may not have what you want, but they might know where it is. nell

I think it depends on when. Gloucester gaol registers for Victorian times are at Gloucester Record Office, with an online searchable index. Strangeways may have registers at Manchester Record Office, or they may be at The National Archives. Hold on and I'll check on a2a. nell
