Hi Any thoughts anyone? I am trying to find out what happened to a William Thomas Whitehead after he left the metroplitan Police force in 1915 age 44. I have the details from his MEPO at Kew -pension amount etc, next of kin Adelaine but he was living in police quarters at the time and in his MEPO it says address- will advise , so where do I go from here. I want to know if he stayed in the Kent area or returned to his native Northants. My Dad thinks he remembers an 'old Bill' Whitehead from the 1920s visiting in Northants . I did find the death of a William Thomas Whitehead in 1917 on family search in Northampton but not on 1837 online so do not think this could be him. Confused Christine

Thanks for help Valerie. Sadly its not him. Got quite excited for a minute as he did come from near Towcester but his parents were George and Elizabeth. Many thanks though, Regards Christine

I think you may need to trawl through the GRO death registers and once you've got an address from that see if you can go back to 1915. As he was 44 when he retired from the force, he probably did another job. One of my Met Police ancestors ran a pub, which I believe is a popular occupation for ex-coppers. Perhaps this occupation might be listed on his death cert. Did he have children who married after 1915, so info about him would be on the marriage cert? nell

Hi Val You got the right family. William is the one who went on to the Met but then,' vanished 'at retirement. Thanks for looking though. Regards Christine Hi Helen Little Nell. Thanks for your suggestions. The old Bill that my Dad remembers was a bailiff which made me think he could have been in the police force earlier but I don't know if it is one and the same person Thanks though Regards Christine
