These are either sisters or the same person. You really need to find their birth/marriage/death certs. The Camarthen parish records would be at Record Office: Carmarthenshire Archive Service, Parc Myrddin, Waun Dew, Carmarthen, SA31 1JP. (01267)228232. [email protected] nell

Thanks marjorie but how do I go about either proving they were the same or sister or as someone else said two completely different families.

Marjorie I think at one point it was illegal to marry your deceased spouse's sibling - this may have been why it was a secret. It was far from uncommon though - don't think anyone took much notice of such a silly law! Maz. XX

Try your nearest LDS family history centre, who will get the PRs for you at a small cost - maybe cheaper than going to the Records Office. A friend of mine, after her father died she found amongst his papers his marriage certificate. She thought this was rather odd, because when her mother had died, he had given her her mothers marriage certificate - two marriage certificates in other words, identical in every respect, except one was dated two years after the other. Both were original certificates, she thought this very odd and eventually contacted the Registrar concerned. It turned out that her mother was Mary May, died in childbirth and her father married the twin sister, May Mary(God, what an imagination those parents had) two years later. Her family knew about it, his didnt, so no-one ever mentioned it! My friend was very upset about this and doesnt know why it was all shrouded in such stupid secrecy.
