I have spent a year trying to find out about my grandfather family. He was put into care in 1926 aged 2. His family from certs I managed to obtain I could tell where all in the entertainment business. But his father has proved a mystery, I was getting nowhere trying to find any of my grandfather mothers descendants, so decided to try and find some descendents of my grandfather's uncle. After searching, the indexes I found my grandfather's uncle married in 1925 and had two children. A kind person on here did an electoral register lookup for one of the children and found them for me. I so composed a letter and today recieved a letter back. The letter contains heaps of information on my great grandmothers family, including lots of pictures, something I never thought I would have for that side of the family. My grandads family consists of lots of actresses, singers and artists, does anyone know of any websites out there with information, that might help me to find some more info. I would also like to thank everyone who has helped me in the last year in my search for information on my grandfather family. Although I have still not found out who his father was. I have indeed found a heap of information on his mothers side and have also no got in touch with some living ancestors, who I am looking forward to meeting. I keep reading peoples success stories and never thought, I would be writing my own. Thank you everyone. It just goes to show, do not ever give up.

The International Movie Database is a superb resource, with information on even the most obscure people to have been involved in movies (imdb.com). By using this site's search facility I managed to trace a 1930s comedy my gt-gt-uncle Jack Frost starred in. Armed with the title I then checked with the British Film Institute's stills archive, to find that they have images of the movie, prints of which can be ordered. The Stage, the UK's long-running entertainments newspapers, also provides a good place in which to post a request for more information about actors from years gone by. Happy hunting.

Hi thats interesting. My father was in a silent movie about 1923. I wrote to Film Institute as I found it had been shown only the previous year at a film festival. However, I have had no reply back from them. I shall have to write again. Dad is 90 next week and I would like to be able to show him at least some stills.
