Hi all Am new to this, I put in a search for my g/g/g/grandad on family search, found his details and there is a 'batch no'. when i clicked on it, it came up with another search page which i filled in for British Isles region with just his surname. Firstly I don't understand what a 'batch no' is, and secondly, the search in British Isle region came up with 7 other names, does this mean that they are all related and to do with the batch number???? Cheers for any help!

Using the batch number and surname will bring up all the events in the particular church for the period covered by the batch. A useful way to find siblings.

Thanks, so does that mean they are all related? Am not sure how or where to use batch number, sorry to be so thick, have only been doing this a couple of weeks!

The batch number is a batch of births, marriage or deaths for a particular parish and time period. If you put in the surname on the search page you will get a list of all entries for that name from that batch. If you know the name of the parents of the child from a baptism you can also put in their christian names on the search page and get a list of all their children.

Batch no. relates to the film containing a series of entries. I have found that sometimes it is all the baptisms in a church, or sometimes all the baptisms for a particular name. If you google Hugh Wallis, you'll find a site that enables you to check by county and then town/village each church. It gives the batch number with dates covered. Cnumbers are christenings, M numbers are marriages. Click on this and you can then enter a surname and the entries will appear. nell

No it does not mean they are necessarily siblings. Check the parents' names and if they match then they MAY be siblings. But if there are two Mary and John Jones having babies, there is no immediate way to differentiate. Likewise, if the batch ends in 1790 and Mary and John had babies after that, then those children will not be on the same batch number as their older siblings. Consequently you might miss some.
