I have a marriage certificate for great-grandparents (1871) stating that they were both "Of full age" -presumably over 21? I need to find their birth years. Would their proper age be recorded in the original church register? Does anyone know? Pat |

The marriage certificate was an exact copy of the information in the parish register so sorry, no you won't find the ages in the register. |

Not sure about that one. I have a printout from a parish register page, and it just gives the names and not the ages. I think what I have is a Bishops transcript, so it may be different from an actual parish register. Start looking for births from 1850 back, but may be worth going forward a bit in case they lied about being of full age. |

Pat, have you tried looking at censuses? Although the information isn't 100% reliable, it might give you a rough idea of where to start looking. Mandy :) |

Judith, Carol and Mandy, I won't bother trying for the original parish register now if it won't help. I've done some research on the censuses - no real result so far but will plod on now as it seems my best bet! Thank you so much for your help. Regards - Pat |
