This same thing happened with one of my grandfathers. On his marriage certificate, his father had the same name as him and was 'deceased'. Then when I got his birth certificate, there was no father listed and grandfather had his mother's surname - therefore illegitimate! |

Hi, Does he appear on Mary's birth cert? If not he may have been an "invention" on the marriage cert to avoid the embarrassment of illegitimacy. Gwynne |

Help needed please, I have a Mary Fox born in Bury Union Workhouse in 1880 with her mum Ann from Dublin. No father is mentioned and the only record I have of him is on Mary's marriage certificate in Haslingden in 1900 as deceased. I have looked everywhere I can think of. elaine |
