why do some people not reply from an enquiry.they must know what it is like to need information & if even if they know they have nothing to help you with, they could just give you a short answer.i know at least two new entries have not replied to me.

Its been mentioned before that you can post a message without being a full member but you are unable to reply.Do you think thats the case or if they are new havnt learnt the rules yet.Its happened to me and it is rude since you have taken the time to get in touch with them Margaret

Hello Sheila - I agree with you. It is only common courtesy to send a few words to someone who has taken the time to get in touch with you even if it is just to say that you have no connection. Regards Angela

Hi all I sent a message to someone that I was convinced was connected to me. Never got a reply. I eventually found her on another message board (having a rare name in tree helped!) and got in touch that way. I then found out that something had happened to her computer a while back which corrupted her email etc. She hasn't been able to access her genes account since or her email so she wasn't being rude, she just didn't know I was trying to get in touch. I try to remember this when I am waiting for people to reply! Lynne

Do you know if banners are being attached to your emails (e.g. some sort of advertising). Banners appear to servers as attachments and some will block the email altogether without informing the sender. Just a thought. Jonathan

(Added also to "board courtesy") I requested some look ups the other day on some threads and stupidly forgot which threads I'd added to, just call me silly. Now I write it down but I wonder if the person did the same? Luv lorr x x x

It would be good if everyone were to be considerate when asking about hot matches. Two examples - Henry James? (no DoB, no please or thank you hence no reply from me) Henry James - have given you permission to look at my tree - could you let me know if there is a connection. (If someone wants some info from me I expect them to make some effort in supplying me with details - not expecting me to look up their tree at this stage) Courteous questions receive full replies with as much detail as I can give. Just recently i have had seven messages from people, who should they spend a moment looking, would have known the 'hot' match was more like an iceberg. Despite there not being a connection and replying promptly to say so, i now have seven tree permissions i don't want or need. I do have access to two or three other trees, but the drop down is starting to get so long it's unreal. Despite asking the owners to remove me from the tree views they dail to do so. Glen

Margaret, you can reply to a message sent to you if you are not a full member, you just can't send the initial message in that situation. Kate.

Thanks Anne. I seem to remember doing that in the very early days and having the same problem as you,but it's in the dim and distant past!! Glen
