Hi Margaret, You could try the following site, and ask for advice. http://freepages(.)genealogy(.)rootsweb(.)com/~britishhomechildren/ It's specifically for British home children who were sent to Canada, though most would have gone through an organisation. Still, it's worth a try. May I ask why he thinks he was 'kidnapped'? Is he sure that Ida was not his mother. Did she say she was at some point? Only ask because I know someone who's mother went to Canada and claimed he was her nephew, when really he was her son, but she didn't want to admit to being an unmarried mother, as that would have gone against her when seeking work, apparently. That was around the same time. Cazza

Your main problem is not knowing Albert`s surname at birth. It may be worth trying the records office in the area and see if they have newspapers from that time. There may have been a news story about a kidnapped child.

I wonder if anyone can suggest where I might find information to help an elderly man in Canada find out about his family. He reckons he was 'kidnapped' and taken from England to Canada in 1917 when he was 1 year old. The passenger list shows him accompanying Ida Hayward on the SS Olympic. Ida is 23 and Albert hayward is aged 1. Ida travelled from St John's New Brunswick Canada in Dec 1915 arriving Liverpool Jan 1916. Ida then moved around England over the next year before leaving for Halifax, Canada with Albert in tow arriving May 21st 1917. I have several addresses in Kent, Sussex and lincolnshire where Ida stayed whilst in England. Albert has never had a birth certificate & would dearly love to know more about his origins.
