I hope someone can help. I have a photograph which was taken overseas (i.e. not in England) of a small grave taken in around 1891. The inscription mentions the placename of Wellington. The child's father served with the 1st Norfolk Regiment and I believe he was stationed in India around 1890. I think there was a Wellington (Barracks?) there too, although I am having trouble confirming this. I am pretty (98%) sure that this is not Wellington, NZ. I'm not have much luck with variuos searches on the net, and I wonder if someone could help with either a website for British Cemeteries in India (c1891) or if anyone knows of a Wellington (Barracks?) in India. Any information would be gratefully received :) |

Thanks for that Frances. I have a great grandfather who served with the Norfolk Regiment and also had 2 children born in India (according to the 1901 census) and sadly one of these died at a few months old. I think that there was a Wellington Barracks in Jullunder, India (found this on a web site earlier), so it's looking promising. Might write to the Norfolk Regiment to see what information they have. Thanks again. Heather :o) |
