Thanks to you all for your replies, I think i may add some details for some of my branches. I have one branch where 4 brothers both married two sets of sisters from other families, this might be worthwhile especially as they all came from the same relativly small village. Thanks to all for your advice Michele

I quite often pass a bit of time following some obscure branch of the tree on the various censuses as they appear online. Often they are very distantly related but it is good to get as much information as possible especially when sometime in the future you make contact with someone from that part of the tree. Mb

All people have their own ideas on the best way to do it. Personally I add whoever I find who I prove are connected to my tree, in all directions. I find it is more fun that way. But there are no rules. Ann Glos

I like to put everyone I know about onto a tree, so I can work out relationships and when, as often happens, that unusual surname crops up again, I can see why. That’s for my private information. I loaded my tree wholesale onto this site because I am a poor typist and did not want to introduce new errors. With the result that I have single references to a lot of names. If I were doing things from scratch, I probably would not put on those people about whom I know very little, because I hate having to tell people that I cannot help them if they enquire. On the other hand, it is often precisely that combination of names that may start an enquiry from somebody else, so I dunno! Brenda

Hi all, I was thinking about the family branches I have and wondered how far and wide to extend my tree. Would you add spouses parents and siblings if they are known even if they are not on a direct line. I've fond so many people on census records, and was wondering whether it was worth adding these people to my tree. Ie grandad's brothers wife's family I suppose it's up to the individual but do any of you recomend to add them? Best Wishes Michele
