I have an Irish line and its not easy. The LDS centres have the index for Ireland up to 1920 I think and you have to send to Ireland for certificates and pay in euros. A lot of the Irish records were lost sometime last century when some bright spark decided that they should all be destroyed. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints went to Ireland and filmed a lot of the information before destruction, then went back to Utah with it. Genuki has quite a bit of information about researching Irish ancestors.

Helen Have you found any particular place in Ireland ANY of your people came from? Dates of births, marriages anything at all that may help in your search, really one of the most important things is Where? If you could try and solve that you may be able to get further. The info you have so far where did you get it ieCensus? did it just say born Ireland? if so it is hard, but there are ways and means, not everything was destroyed and it was destroyed in 1922, so local churches especially Church Of Ireland have some information that wasnt destroyed. Try and narrow the date down you may be able to order something from Ireland that way. If you can find out more post again, there could be something people will be able to help with. Good Luck Pat x Give some more information if you have it or when you get it there is help out there for some people. Did you try the Homepage for Irish Research?

I have obtained a birth and marriage certificate from Ireland with no problem. I was under the impression that it was the census records that were destroyed, but I may be wrong, just going by what I read at the time. I left off the Irish side a while ago, but will now go back to it with fresh eyes, so to speak. If you need more help Helen, then dont hesitate to ask, someone may be able to help even if I cant.

Carol, I know what you mean about the Irish side, its a nightmare really. I have half Irish, my Dad was from Dublin near where I live now. bl***y pain they are LOL rather my Black Country people anytime, more straight forward, even with the odd brick wall who try the best to be act like my Irish side LOL. Its all very demanding but I suppose we have to pay some price for our nosey behaviour, I know our people did not imagine we would spend so much time looking for them. But at least we can help each other fumble around. Pat x

Helen, I'm steering well clear of my Irish side at the moment after all the difficulties I've heard people having, but I can give you a few sites to try. BTW The census' are very patchy to say the least, but you never know you might find something. http://www.groni.gov.uk/index.htm (GRO N.Ireland) http://www.census-online.*com/links/Ireland/ http://www.scotlandsclans.*com/ircemeteries.htm http://www.rootsweb.*com/~fianna/*county/monaghan.html http://www.irishorigins.*com/ http://tiara.ie/locframe.htm http://www.irelandgenweb.*com/ http://www.leitrim-roscommon.*com/index.shtml http://www.rootsweb.*com/~nirwgw/ Right, that should keep you busy for a wee while. Lol Hope you find sometrhing useful and remember to remove the * from addresses best wishes Christine
