Margaret Hope this will be of some help to you, although I suspect it might prove more difficult than it should be. The address for obtaining a death certificate is: Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages Makombe Building Leopold Takawira Street P Bag 7734 Harare Tel: 00 263 4 702295 I also found the e-mail address of someone offering to obtain certificates on the www.rhodesia.com website. Address being [email protected]. It might be worth a try. Address for the Anglican Church is P O Box 981, Harare. telephone 00 263 4 702251 or 702252. Good luck, if you need anything further, will endeavour to get help for you, still have family in Zimbabwe.

Hi Margaret I have no direct information but do know that you might try the Anglican Church in Harare - they have a memorial for persons on viscounts shot down in 1979 - I lost friends on that flight too and visited the memorial when I was home last. (I say home as born in SA and then lived in Rhodesia/Zim for 15yrs till moved to UK) Also might try find an Ex-Rhodesian society that may be on Web? or take bull by horns and try the Zimbabwean Embassy in London - they should be able to provide a death cert or info on how to get a cert - although because of the era you may have difficulty due to "History" if you get my meaning so maybe just ask re death cert first then era after you get that info. I will be calling my parents soon so will get my Mum to check from their end to see if she can get me some info for you. Hope this helps Regards Maggie H

I wonder if anyone can advise me on how to get a copy of the death certificate or obituary notice for someone who died in a plane that was shot down in Rhodesia in February 1979. I would also be interested in any newspaper articles about it. This was the only thing I can find about it so far - http://home.iprimus(.)com.au/rob_rickards/viscounts/crewpax.htm The person that I am interested in is Lt Andrea Mason who was in the Army at that time. I believe she did have a full millitary funeral. As Andrea was British but living in Rhodesia, I have written to the British Embassy in Zimbabwe but they have not replied. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Regards Margaret
