having actually discovered a relly and been granted access to his tree I am now wondering if there is any way I can copy the mutual branch into mine and vice versa. Has anybody managed this?

Haven't found a way of doing it on this site. It can be done by firstly downloading some family tree (free) software - I use the PAF software from familysearch.org. You can then download your file from GC and upload it, persuade your contact to download his/hers. send it to you, put that too into PAF and merge the two. Then put the merged PAF file back into GC. This then has the advantage that you have a backup copy as well Regards Peter Krafft Auckland NZ

Thanks Peter, I have contacted GR for their comments on the problem. If they don't come up with something better looks like that is the route I'll have to take. Beth:)

Liz I have Family Historian software on my pc; it compares different Gedcom fiels and then allows you to merge the trees making sure you also select the tick box to retain the originals. Regards Roy ps If you ask gr for an opinion on anything I wouldn't wait too long.

Sorry to put a damper on things but I think I saw a thread this morning that the genes export facility is not working at the moment.
