I only wish I knew which region my Tocquevilles were from, would make life easier.

Merci! My french isn't that great at all. It makes me wonder why her family went out there though. She was born about 1856. Her surname was WEBB. Hope you find what you're looking for.

Don't know the full details but my lot had a family rift and moved to Suffolk, don't know wether the rift was before or after the move though. I will try to find out from someone I have contacted in the past. Naturalization records are held at Kew and Islington. If she was naturalized you would have to write to the Bordeaux Departement as records of French births are held regionally. So you may need to brush up on your French, grovel to the Mayor and enclose a couple of international reply coupons.

Thanks for the info. My Allsopp's are from the Sunderland area. Most Allsopp's I believe are from the North of England.

If she was a British subject as opposed to naturalised British subject her birth should be held in the births overseas indexes. Don't mind me asking but where does the Allsopp name come from? My Horsups were apparently originally Allsopps.

Any ideas how to find an ancester that was born in France? I found a census with my grt grt grandmother being born in Bordeaux, France. But she was noted down as a British subject. Not sure where to look. Any tips?
