However, there is a Rebecca Freeman marriage in 1812 in Brant Broughton, so I think she is accounted for! There is a Rebecca Freeman baptised in Newark in 1876, just along the Fosse Way!

Thanks once again Geoff. Although the Census entries have left me a bit puzzled. I can find Charlotte's baptism in 1826 in Eagle so know 15 is correct age. I had found a marriage of Noah Wass to Rebecca Freeman in 1809 in South Hykeham, just a few miles from Eagle. Also the baptism of their first child (three weeks after the marriage!) in South Hykeham, a couple more christenings there, then later children in Eagle. Then I found a baptism in 1790 for a Rebecca Freeman in nearby Brant Broughton (even nearer the Notts. border) But this should make Rebecca 51 in 1841 not 65. I've seen ages differ quite a bit but the women tend to lose a few years not gain so many. But if she was 65-69 in 1841 then she would have been at least 50 when her last child was born. I think the Census may be misleading. Then again the only possible Noah Wass in Lincolnshire was ch. in East Barkwith in 1774. I had previously dismissed this one as being too early for 'my' Noah but now I'm not sure!

I see his baptism is on IGI - he is not with his parents on 1841 Eagle census: Noah Wass 70 Cottager Rebekah 65 William 20 Shoemaker Charlotte 15 No relationships given. Rebekah was NOT born in Lincs (Notts is only 2 miles away). Ages in 1841: 15 means 15-19, 20 means 20-24 etc. Lincolnshire seems to be Wass Central; a cousin of my Dad's married a Wass.

Geoff Thank you very much for all the time you spent helping me! It really is appreciated. I think I've found the deaths of Elizabeth in 1855 and Christopher in 1856 on Free BMD but nothing for Ann, the mother or the children William, George and Robert. Will have to try viewing the pages when I have more time. One great piece of information you turned up was that Robert (Snr) was from Eagle. That gives me a bit more to investigate. I think I've seen quite a few Wass entries on the IGI from around there. I'll be packing the kids off to bed early tonight so I can spend some time on the computer. Thanks again Helen

Well, there IS a Robert Wass in Minting on 1861 census - it's the one who is alone on the 1881, aged 62. Robert Wass 42 carpenter, Eagle Lincs Catherine 15 Housekeeper, Minting Charlotte 12 Scholar, Minting Thomas H 11 Scholar, Minting Charles 2 Minting Living elsewhere is John Wass 16 carter, Minting In fact you meant Robert Wass baptised in 1860, didn't you? Robert (snr) is described as married, but the fact that his daughter is housekeeper suggests to me that he may be widowed. There were apparently no more kids after 1860. IGI has these children of Robert Wass at Minting 1. GEORGE WASS - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Christening: 21 AUG 1854 Minting, Lincoln, England 2. ELIZABETH WASS - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 22 JUN 1851 Minting, Lincoln, England 3. KATHARINE WASS - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 22 MAR 1846 Minting, Lincoln, England 4. CHRISTOPHER WASS - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Christening: 15 JUL 1856 Minting, Lincoln, England 5. WILLIAM WASS - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Christening: 28 JUN 1853 Minting, Lincoln, England 6. THOMAS HALTER WASS - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Christening: 18 FEB 1850 Minting, Lincoln, England 7. CHARLOTTE WASS - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 28 MAY 1848 Minting, Lincoln, England 8. CHARLES WASS - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Christening: 10 AUG 1858 Minting, Lincoln, England 9. ROBERT WASS - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Christening: 23 APR 1860 Minting, Lincoln, England Apparently Elizabeth (1855) and Christopher (1856) are accounted for on FreeBMD.

Geoff I would appreciate it if you could have a look for me. Not sure what info you need but I'll give you what I can. The family was called Wass and were in Minting in Apr 1860 when the son Thomas was baptised. The parents were Robert and Ann both born around 1822. Other children include Charles, Christopher, George and William. Cheers, Helen

Need an 1861 census lookup? Not indexed, but birthplace(s) on 1881 census might give a clue.

Thank you for the information. I now know to look around the Sleaford area for the first children born after they married.

I just did a google search and it seems in the 18802 there was indeed a new and old sleaford meant to say 1880s

I have a marriage in 1842 that is recorded on IGI as taking place in New Sleaford. Does anyone know if this was another name for Sleaford or is it somewhere else altogether? The first children I can find for this couple were born from 1846 onwards in Minting which is near Horncastle but I'm sure there should be some earlier births. Just not sure where in Lincolnshire I should be looking. Can anyone help please?
