I received a birth certificate today and this is what it says for the mother. Mary Rogers formerly Huckster. Then it has Howard underneath. Does this mean she was originally Howard, married a Huckster and was a widow before she married Thomas Rogers? Or is it something different? I have loads of other certificates and they are all straightforward. Thanks for your help, Wendy

It could mean she was originally a Howard and married a Huckster or it could be the other way round. If I were you I'd give the register office you ordered it from a ring and ask them to check it for you. They usually don't mind if you've just spent £7 with them. Kath
