Does Klelimer town exist?

On the 1881 census my gg grandfather is listed as born in Klelimer Town, Ireland. I haven't been able to find out whether this place exists or wether it is a mis-transcription. Any ideas anyone? His son was supposedly born in Clare County, Ireland but on the 1891 census his place of birth has mysteriously morphed into Warrington, Lancashire (I think it is the same person on both census). Is this a fairly common occurance?! Thanks. Craig.

Hi Craig Sorry, haven't heard of Klelimer town, but I can tell you people do change their places of birth - my great-grandfather stated he was born in 'Russia' on the 1881 census, but changed this to Shoreditch, London on the 1891 - and I'm certain it's the same person! Good luck Helen

Craig - I did wonder if he had a heavily foreign accent, and either misunderstood the questions the enumerator asked, or the enumerator couldn't understand his reply! Perhaps an Irish person from Clare (possibly Irish-speaking?) might have had the same problem?

Klelimer doesn't look either English or Irish to me. It was probably recorded incorrectly. Could possibly be Caher Caherconnell Cahermurphy Carran Carrigaholt Clare Clarecastle Cliffs of moher Clonlara Cooraclare Corbally Cranny Cratloe Crookhaven Crusheen Kildysart Kilfenora Kilkee Kilkishen Killadysert Killaloe Killimer [this seems most likely] Kilmaley Kilmihil Kilrush Kilshanny Quilty These are all in County Clare. nell

Thanks very much everyone - I did think Killimer sounded most likely but I didn't want to jump to any conclusions if there was some obscure village out there somewhere!
