Sorry if this adds to the confusion, but I'm afraid you need to bear in mind that your names at Baptism don't have to be the same as the ones at registration - I know my mother's weren't. Also, you can take another name at confirmation, as my niece did. This is just in the context of church records. There's nothing to stop you choosing to be called something else. (Consider some popstars!) If that's what you're called, then that's your name. You will have made life difficult for yourself if you don't formalise the changes (deed poll etc) but you don't actually have to do so. Christine

Now, I am confused enough!! Seriously, sure she's right on the 1881, and I suppose she might have gone to Penn!!! to get christened. This is the wife of Edward Wilkes that you helped me with! So many thanks for that Jeanie

Is it possible she was mistranscribed on 1881? Since you have doubt's, why not add another one? ;o) Horner Homer (quite similar, aren't they?) Received grandmothers birt cert. today. Mother an Ann nee Homer. Bit of a blow since I was hoping for Mary Ann.anyway found she is Mary Ann by looking on 1837. She is definitely on the 1901, and is recorded as being born in Bradley Staff. She appears on the 1881 as a servant along with a Harriet, presumably sister, both born in Bradley. However I cannot find her on the IGI as Mary Ann Homer but there are Mary Eliza and Harriett Homer both on the same batch number but both being christened on the 6th sep. 1863 in Penn Stafford. Do you think I can trust these are they? Really can't aford to buy another cert for a while! Many thanks Jeanie
