married or maiden name???

Maiden, always. Uusally programmes will display 'Mary Smith born 1850'. This implies that Smith was the surname at birth. When you search for a birth record you don't usually look under the married name. |

Definitely maiden name. If you don't know it yet, mark it as unknown until you find out! The married name becomes obvious when you add the marriage. Carole |

You should always put everyone under the name they were born with - then you can add spouses or put name changes in later. Well, that's what the books tell you anyway and that's what I do!!! Maz. XX |

when people eneter a wife/ mother etc do you put her as the married or maiden name?? i can see advantages of both... i cant find a way of putting the other name in.... what do you people do???? please help, im a neewbie!!!! |
