Just a thought about possible places for the kids. If mother only in hospital short term they may have been farmed out to neighbours briefly, as already mentioned older ones could be in service or the father may have been unable to cope and put them in the poorhouse. Beth :) |

Jean, I was looking for my rellies and their names came up on the hospital census. It just give list of people in her ward at that time also nurses in charge of ward. Found my G Grandmother in 1881 hospital census and other G G Grandmother in 1871 hospital census Valerie |

Lesley, I found Mother on 1871 Census she was in Guys Hospital. I loves to know why? Selina, As for the Poole family, sort of going round in circles so I have put it on hold for now. Thanks you all I will try looking else where Valerie |

I've wondered about that too - shouldn't they show up SOMEWHERE on the census? I realise the censuses are way short of perfect, but I've "lost" a few rellies as well. Found one at her fiances, which was very useful, but apart from that... Anne |

boarding school, institution, children's home , orphangae .,convent or depending on age 12+ girls could go into service, older boys might join Army or navy. Kim |

On my 1871 census, Mother was in hospital and her husband at home with 2 of kids, but I cant find the rest of them? Apart from rellies where else can they go? Valerie |
