Stewkley is in Buckinghamshire not Buckingham. Buckingham is the county town of Buckinghamshire or Bucks for short as Angie has written. Janet

Stewkley comes under WINSLOW registration district. The volume no. is VI (1837-51) and then 3a. nell

Angela, I have looked at 1837online from Sep 1842 to Jun 1844 and have found the following. They are handwritten and not easy to read, so maybe someone with a couple of credits to spare could check them out. Dec 1842 Dickens Thomas James Barrow on Soar xv 111 or 141 Jun 1843 Dickens Thomas Shindlow x1x 577 Dec 1843 Dickens Thomas Benjamin (cant read the district, looks like M Huitic xv 175

for Thomas, the 1851 census has two at 10 years old, one at 9, one at 6. I think you'll need the father's name from a marriage cert, or some such clue. Given that, the census will give you the family and hopefully a better fix on the age

Angie, If you look here http://freebmd.rootsweb*com/progress.shtml you will see that FreeBMD is not complete for those years. Your best bet is to try 1837online. IGI has these: 1. I am trying to find a birth certificate for Thomas Dickens who according to 1881 census was born in Stewkley, Bucks about 1843. Have tried Free bmd and found nothing. Also looking for Eliza Griffin (Thomas' wife) born in Stewkley about 1844 and not found it on there. Can anyone give me some advice please. Thanks Angie
