Hi there, I had to have a new modem fitted and at the same time the guy loaded SPYBOT SEARCH, and AVG 6.0. does anyone else have these and are they any good, and how often should I run them? I also have ADAWARE which is smashing for stopping pop ups and have had this installed for quite a while and run this about once a week along with emptying temp internet files and defragging Cheers Lynn

Lynn: Speaking from experience, SPYBOT does the same thing as ADAWARE but I have found that ADAWARE is superior.....the differance being that Spybot actually ADDS spyware to your PC. As for AVG, you get what you pay for. AVG has 2 versions, a pay version and a free one. In our shop we have had many instances where AVG (free version, which is what most people use between the free versus pay) is either missing viruses or finding them but unable to remove them. Norton and McAfee had no problem fixing what AVG could not once it was installed on the infected PC. AVG, in my opinion, is fine when you have nothing else installed as an anti-virus, but suggest you look into replacing it at your earliest convenience....and, yes, there will those who will attest to the fact that they use AVG with no problem and it's had many good write ups....I can only tell you what I see coming into our shop for repair....it DOES work to some degree...but for how long depends on luck, I guess. It depends rather how much your computer is turned on. If it's not inconvenient you can get get AVG 6.0 to scan every day at the same time - this is not so useful if your computer is turned OFF at the time! Also, get it to update your virus definitions at least once a week.
