Thanks Julie - I am waiting for details on my grandfathers exact date of death from relatives in the UK - they also might have his death certificate and I am hoping to have those details soon. Thanks for the suggestion and I will definately be posting that message soon. Thanks again Cheers from Janine in OZ

Ask someone to do an electors roll search for the address last known at - they may come up with a name and phone number that is a relative or knows who were there before them. Also ask for neighbours details too - a "nosy neighbour" or a "know it all" is a great source of info. If not ask if someone will go and look at the archive electors roll for the address at the time they were living there ie pre the bereavement - they are usually kept in the main library but should check first.

Thanks Brenda & Rose I will give both those ideas a go. I really appreciate anything you have to offer in the way of information. Cheers Janine from OZ

Hi Janine, Just an idea. Click on Friends Reunited link at the top of this page. (It does not cost anything to register) Search for their last known address. I know they are unlikely to be listed there but you may find someone who was living there in the 1980's who might remember them and even Moira's last name. Good luck. Rose

It takes a bit of negociating and the will indexes themselves are not online, but you can find info at http[:]//www[.]courtservice[.]gov[.]uk if you remove all the brackets. Brenda

Thankyou Brenda & Joyce for the information supplied. Hopefully I will find a link. It's very frustrating when you have 4 grandparents and for all different reasons there is a brick wall for all of them. Thanks again Cheers Janine from OZ

Hi , Janine , The name and address of the informant is included on a death cert. Hopefully if she is the informant then you will have a bit more to go on. Can't help you with intestacy records tho', sorry . joyce

Death certificate would only provide Moira's name if she was the informant of your grandfather's death. She may have continued to live at the same address, so it is worth looking at street directories dated a year or so after he died. Even if there wasn't a will, she may have applied for letters of administration to settle his affairs. This would be recorded in London and probably in a local probate office as well. Brenda

My grandfather Stephen Lasham died in the 1980's. He had a defacto wife named Moira. They had lived in Liverpool for most of their lives. Moira it is assummed kept all of Stephens papers/documents etc.. Unfortunately no one seems to know Moira's last name and I am therefore unable to find her. I am applying for my grandfathers death certificate once I know all the details from my cousins in England. Would this give me her name even though they were not married? Also if he died intestate where would one obtain the records. Does anyone else have any ideas? Cheers Janine from OZ
