Firstly I want to thank everyone who has contributed suggestions, ideas and help to me in trying to get my computer problems sorted (especially Christina, thank you). What I have experienced and found out MAY be of help to others, by the way I have Windows XP. I started having various problems a few weeks ago, microsoft messages came on the screen I must upgrade my browser to internet explorer 6.0 which I did, It was at this time I started getting problems, next thing I kept getting messages to update to SP2 by microsoft, in the meantime I bought McAfee as I did not want to stay with Norton & my subscription which was up for renewal. I started to blame McAfee as being too good at blocking all my usual Geneology sites. I could not use certain links ie to other sites or pages like the VIEW button on 1837on line. I would get the same error message Iexplore.exe mod.name ntdll.dll didn't have a clue what all meant but all messages where the same, each time after sending the report I was knocked off the internet. It was starting to get me down, I tried everything, people were very kind trying to help me, nothing I did helped. I had had enough and decided to contact microsoft for support, first thing they said uninstall SP2??? I did that still nothing! I had my own assistant advising me after other ideas they passed me on to check contributions from other users, suddenly someone else had written the same problem as me re same error messagaes, someone had answered her query and it was this simple. In the tools section, go to Internet options go to advanced scroll down and you will see a box that should NOT BE CLICKED "Enable third party browser extensions" (requires restart). unclicked this, restarted the computer and suddenly I can view any page again on 1837online. I wanted to let others know if this error message and you get knocked off the internet straight after pressing a link you will know its that simple. hope this info is of help Again many Thanks all. Pat x

Karen, I only check through 1837online View option, if that does not work then I reckon this is your problem. I wanted the people on the boards to know how simple any such link problems are to solve. I do not know what your problem is but Judy in the States is invaluable for help on Computer problems. I decided to post what happened to me because so many kind people (as usual) wanted to help me and I thought of them and this advise I had to offer might save them as much heartaches as me (not been able to access my computer as I should). Also I would have paid almost anything they asked (on HP terms) to solve this simple problem but what was worse was the computer shop did not want to know??? I just felt anyone using computers should keep any free advice printed in a binder (which I am now doing). Whatever problem you are having post it and maybe someone will have the answer. Good Luck Pat x
