I HAD AN AUNTY - QUEENIE WALKER. HER REAL NAME WAS WINIFRED. SHE WAS CALLED QUEENIE BECAUSE SHE WAS THE ONLY GIRL IN A FAMILY OF 3 BOY AND HER FATHER SAID SHE WAS HIS LITTLE QUEEN. MARIAN GAMBLE

My aunt Queenie's real name was Ruth, I only found this out from her death cert.

Had a quick look on Freebmd - and it came up with over 4,000 entries 1890- 1920. But I suspect it was also a pet name and may be like Cissie - some times short for sister. Brenda

Queenie is a name in its own right. I don't think it is an abbreviation. Of course, she could have been called Queenie as a pet name with an entirely different first name. nell

My Grandad had a sister that was known as Queenie. Would this have been her given name, or would it have been short for something else??
