Marriage ref : 1870 Soreditch - 1c 40[14]......... I'm a bit confused can someone please explain to me why the ref number is written like the above......... I've been looking for a marriage for a Alfred Williams to a Rebecca Morton. Having found quite a few ( ! ) ref Numbers for Alfred Williams in the correct area this is the only one I can't rule out from the list of possible partners you get. His is the only name listed which means I have no way to know who a possible partner might be.......Any help / explainations appreciated...Esta :)

I've checked on 1837online for a marriage of Rebecca Morton in 1870 and the only one listed is in the last qtr, in Nottingham, 7b, 424. However there is no Alfred Williams in the same place in the same qtr. What quarter of 1870 did you find your reference for the Alfred Williams you found. Kath.

Hi All, Thanks for taking the time to help, it's appreciated. Kristeen your explanation is just what I need, you explained it very well !! These 2 are causing me a headache as without a marriage cert I can't see how I can get any further. I found all their details on the census' - They had 2 children George( B 1868 - Shoreditch ) and Emily ( b. 1870 - Bethnal Green ) I know all about their marriages etc...!. On 1971 census Alfred was 26 and Rebecca was 28. I have Emily's birth cert for Rebeccas maiden name which was Morton. Now I need Wedding cert !! I've looked under both names but can't find anything that matches for both of them. The above ref is the only possible ( A long shot I know ! ) but as i didn't understand the ref number I was unable to see if it matches for Rebecca on the same date. It was in the June quarter as Pauline kindly found out too. I would assume they married in the Shoreditch area or close as that is where children were born etc........ Does that make sense - I hope so !! If I can't find a marriage cert i don't know how to progress !! I seem to be running out of things to try :( Esta :)
