My great/great grandfather worked on the Railways in the Newcastle/Gateshead area around about 1900. Are there any organisations/trade union/personnel records or web sites that can be checked to see if I can find out any more information about his employment. Paul G

Hi Paul, The biggest collection of Railway workers' records is at the National Archives in Kew. They have a useful leaflet on their website and there is also a very good book about railway ancestors for sale in their bookshop (or was last time I was there) Gwynne

Hi Paul, My great grandfather was also on the railways here in the north east we came up here with the railways from the Lancashire/Staffordshire areas of Britain. There is a museum up here called the Darlington Railway Museum I've been there and got info from them. Try Google.co.uk and type in the above name and there may be an e-mail address for them. From memory though they were quite slow with their replies. Good luck Paul Blades

Hi Paul, This is one site that I found: http://www(.)railwayancestors(.)fsnet(.)co(.)uk/ ( take out the brackets). I too have got rellies that worked on the railway. I haven't tried them myself yet but they are on my list of things to do! Good luck
