Carol The stillbirth register is entirely separate from the births registers. Information here: http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/stillbirths/ nell

Thank you Mandy, I have done a search and found a few other threads about stillbirths. Mum was the first and Grandmother lost 7 or 8 afterwards either stillborn or only lived a few days, due to Grandmother being rhesus negative. If they knew then what they know now, most may have survived.

Hi From what I've read elsewhere, I think the male & female ones are just where the birth was registered before a name had been decided. If you're looking for someone's birth around that time and can't get any other leads (and you're prepared to risk a £7 fee), I believe that you can sometimes get a result that way - i.e. when the certificate arrives it does have a name after all - presumably in the last column instead of the first. The other thing I've read is that records of stillbirths are regarded as highly sensitive and not so generally available - only to parents & siblings or something (but presumably a bit different for historical events). If you go to the online site, I expect it will tell you. Christine

Hi Carol, I seem to remember reading a longish thread about this not so long ago. Have you tried typing it into 'search' at the top? Sorry I can't offer any other help but good luck. Mandy

I read that stillbirths had to be registered after 1927, but are they in the same registers as everyone else please? Or are they the male and female ones tacked on the end.
