Mary, Thanks, as I said I am quite new to this, I didn't realise you could search the indexes at any Library/Records office - I was being a bit thick and thought you had to go to the one local to where the BMD took place! Carol, thanks for this. I will send off for the certificate to get more info. Sam

Hi there, You do not have to live near Sheffield to search the GRO and that is the only way you are going to find the marriage you are looking for. You will find the GRO on film or fiche at your nearest family history library, records office or LDS centre. good luck, Mary

Hi Pat Thanks for that, i have some credits for 1837 so will try this next. I'm quite new to all this so at a bit of a loss as to how I can eliminate the wrong people and be certain I have the right ones! Thank you Sam

There is one Walter Wilis age 15, in Sheffield in 1901. His occupation is Steam Hammer driver. Have you eliminated him? There are only 2 Emily Bradshaws in the area who are around the right age. One is age 18 and the other 10. You could look on 1837 online. Their ages will be on their marriage ceificate. You can then search the 1901 census for them easier. Pat

Hi I am having trouble tracing my great grandparents. I have my Grandmothers birth certificate (Winifred Willis) from 15/01/1914 and her parents are listed as Walter Willis (Iron Moulder) and Emily Willis, formerly Bradshaw. They are living at 81 Ulverston Road, Ecclesall, Sheffield. Problem is I don't know where to go from here. I can't find either of her parents with 100% certainty on 1901 census and I can't find their marriage on freeBMD. Any ideas what to look at next or is the only answer to go to the Records Office/Library (would rather not if possible, I don't live near Sheffield!)? Many thanks Sam
