hi - i have some confusing details - basically my great grandfather was one of a pair of identical twins - i have found their birth on free bmd - they were born in 1877 - on lds/ ancestry can find no trace of them being in the same family- someone kindly looked up 1891 & came up with these details

On tenterhooks I may be a bit previous, I read some of the previous message, is it possible that one twin died soon after birth.

1891 census as follows: Pontypridd, St Catherines RG12/4422 ED 9 Folio 94 page 21 18 Clarke Street John Jones age 38 born Carmarthen worked in coalmine( Chukweigher?) Elizabeth (wife) age 32 born Llanmomno Evan age 13 born Pontypridd - doorboy in coalmine. (right age) Annie age 10 born Pontypridd. Willie age 7 born Pontypridd. another family : RG12/4425 Registration district: Pontypridd Sub registration district: Ystradyfodwg ED, institution, or vessel: 20 Folio: 5 41 Selby Road, Pontypridd Hugh Rees age 52 -Collier born Taliesin, Cardiganshire Ann (wife) 52 Tal y bont, Cardiganshire William 16 born Ystraddyfodwg -Collier Mary Jane 16 born ditto-dressmaker Louisa 14 born ditto-dressmaker Henry 11 born ditto James Jones age 13 ADOPTED SON born Pontypridd - collier ( right age)

so there is a possibility that they could have been split up - although i know that when james married my g grandmother susan - the twin moved in with them - unfortunately they got married in 1901- so i cant check for them on the census- can anyone suggest where to look now? is there any adoption records for that time? can confirm that they were definately identical twins & their names are correct. - also they had an older brother who died of shellshock after the war. please help ?!?!?!?!? im not sure where to go/what to do next i hope now that i have separated it down into chunks you can make sense of it now thanks in advance sam

There are so many possibilities. I think you will have to order the birth certificate before progressing. My theory would be James was living with an aunt and uncle in 1891. A suitable arrangement for him as there were more people in employment in that household. I've looked on 1881 and heres Evan they are in same house. If you look at the details on family search check the neighbouring households as I bet you will find lots of family living in the vicinity. Good luck, don't think I'd like the task of looking for Jones'sw in Wales!
