Anyone know where to find deaths in Scotland pre 1854? I've looked on scotlandspeople without success and scotsorigins only have births and marriages.

Lisa, There's an Irene Eliza James who died July 1988 in Sodbury on 1837 online. That must be her. Crista

Thanks everyone for all your hints and tips. This is what I can remember/know - a bit sketchy but if anyone can do anything with this they are incredible She was born Irene Eliza Tandy on 24/10/1901 - parents Charles and Alice (maiden name Stinchcombe) First marriage was to a man with the surname of Derrick - he died and she married an Edward James. To the best of my knowledge she died sometime in the period June 1988 to February 1989. Was in a nursing home in Wickwar, South Glos and may have died there, or may have been transferred to any of the hospitals in the area and died there. Told you it was a bit sketchy! Many thanks Lisa

Lisa, I have the Burials Index cds. What is her name and where did she die?

The LDS site does NOT, as a general rule have deaths on it. If you are looking for a site, try familyhistoryonline or get hold of the NBI cd. These projects were launched as a response to fill the gap. Not everything is there, but lots of family histories societies have contributed, or have projects of their own. Devon FHS does a lookup service. Brenda

Lisa, Have you tried the Ancestry site? They have the England and Wales Civil Registration Death 1984-1992 Index online. I'm not sure how complete it is, but it's very extensive. I think it may fall into the no subscription required category, however, if it doesn't I'll take a look for you if you like. Emma x

Kim, You can do that for BMDs after 1984. Search using all the available years and then edit the years until you find the exact year. Crista

How do you do that Crista? Kim

Lisa, What was her name and where was she when she died? You can pin down a month on 1837online by playing "hangman". Crista

How do people go about finding death records? How do you narrow down a date? I've tried putting names thru LDS and using All Events but nothing comes up, and without a year how do you search 1837online? Help? Just as an example, I know my maternal GM died during the period I was pregnant with my son, which was June 1988 to February 1989, but the only person that it comes up with is the wrong person! Theres no one I can really ask for help with dates. Lisa
